Well done to those who took part I the New Members Show part of the January Party Night. I think it's fair to say all the acts were very well received. I look forward to reading the report. There was some concern from the show though as two people wrote apologising that they could not appear in the show. While very different, both reasons were perfectly legitimate although it was clear that they felt they were letting the Circle down. They shan't be named, for very different reasons and also as that is unimportant here. This sort of thing has occurred before though I don't usually receive an apology for their absence. It was felt at a recent committee meeting that the New Members Show while meant with all the best will I the world, can come across as a daunting task and 'that they feel they are being judged' which I know is not the case. It must be understood that very few of the membership can appreciate the pressure they feel is upon them. How many of us did a New Members Show? I didn't and I know most members didn't, as it is a fairly new event in our calendar. While we don't have a true frame of reference, we can think of our first performances. Two of the committee members have taken part in a New Members Show and at a recent meeting expressed just how unnerving it felt taking part. These opinions must be listened to and committee is looking at a way of making the Show the fun and enjoyable event it was always intended to be for the audience and more importantly the performers. Any thoughts would be appreciated. On January 15th we revisited St. James the Great Church, Pudsey for what is our annual Roadshow. It was a well received show with maybe a couple of hiccups. You should find a report from it somewhere in the Billet. I mention it here to thank those who gave up their afternoons to be there. I had the pleasure of introducing Joe King (Brian Waite), Alan Driffield, Ross Risdon and Jonty the Magician (Jon Harris). In the audience were Derek, Kath and Ian Risdon, Jean Waite, Ken Mitchell along with Toni, Dennis Calvert with Gemma and Lauren Stringwell with her friend Katie, who enjoyed our Dinner in November. It was nice to see some familiar faces. A little support goes a long way. |
