Practical Magic

On Friday 6th April we welcomed (is that really the correct word?!) our own members, Jeremy & Cheryl Le Poidevin, Practical Magic. As is usual, Jeremy had to do all the work, whilst Cheryl just stood in the background, pretending that Jeremy was nothing to do with her! Also, as usual, the dealer dem was really good. The effort that the duo put in to make the dem both entertaining and informative, as well as showing off their exceptional range of quality props, is amazing. Jeremy started with his vent dog (and we never saw Jeremy's lips move once - probably because the dog didn't actually speak!), which ran through several old gags with the dog impersonating different breeds of dogs with the hats it kept wearing; blowing up a balloon (with Jeremy's help); and blindfolding the dog who then managed to find the only card with a bone on (again with Jeremy's help!). The dog finally drank a glass of milk, before retiring to a well deserved round of applause!

Whilst I didn't list everything that Jeremy and Cheryl demonstrated, I did like the blendo silks routine where 4 silks were put into a tube and came out as one. The tube could then be shown completely empty - the wand had done the dirty work. I also thought that the repaired breakaway wand would be really good for a childrens show - that bit different; as was the cut and restored skipping rope routine that Jeremy demonstrated. I liked the No Flipping Way trick, where jokers turned over and became aces and the effect where the coin appeared in a glass (which I ended up buying).

Turning to his assistants, Jeremy let John Oakley demonstrate the Linking Rings, whilst Steve Naylor did something else (so unmemorable that I can't remember what it was!).

Jeremy and Cheryl finished to a rapturous round of applause, and hopefully sold plenty of items to make their lengthy trip for the suburbs of Wakefield worthwhile.
