Leeds Women's Luncheon Club

On the 15th August, Eric & Lauren Stringwell, Ray & Margaret Roberts & Keith Pickles travelled to the Mansion House at Roundhay Park, Leeds, to entertain the Leeds Women's Luncheon Club on behalf of the Bradford Magic Circle.

Whilst I have heard of British magicians travelling to America to appere, this was the first time that I had an encountered a British magician who had just travelled from Las Vegas to appear in Leeds. The magician in question, Ray Roberts, had just returned from a fortnight in Las Vegas, where, so he tells us, he had appeared in the top magical venues (watching the shows, of course!).

On what must have been the warmest afternoon of the year, Eric compered the show, starting with a paper to £10 note effect. Keith's routine included the Irish Three Card Trick; having a chosen card found inside a Kit Kat; and sawing a lady assistant in half. He had difficulty with his Holiday Choice routine when his lady assistant failed to follow his instructions! Lauren then got a splendid round of applause for her silk effect. Finally Ray closed the show in his professional way with a mixture, including Bamboo Sticks; tearing up and burning a £10 note which involved breaking an egg inside a dove pan, setting fire to it, and finding the note inside the packet of crisps which came from the ashes; and Head Chopper.

The President thanked us for an excellent show, and the ladies (and few gents) gave us a splendid round of applause at the end.
