The B.M.C.B.B.Q

Was it really a year since the inauguaral BMC B-B-Q? Yes it was, and on Sunday 23rd August, the 2nd one arrived. Many thanks go to Jon, Liz and the Harris family for giving up their home to play mine hosts. They even roped in Jon's mum to help!

Myself, Gemma and Steve Hord were the first to arrive approx 4.00pm, mainly to grab a good parking spot but really because I had the food!

Thanks go to Paul Sunderland for sorting the food, although he and Alison were unable to taste it due to a previous booking to see U2 in Cardiff, Look you !! Louise Bellerby offered her services for the cooking of food and promptly kept her promise to do it her way..... She still maintains it is her special receipe!! (Hmmmmm!) Many thanks, Louise.

Ken Mitchell was there with the guest of honour........the bouncy castle! It was very nice to see Carol looking good after her recent Illness. Also in tow was Ken and Carol's daughter, Toni and Toni's boyfriend. Steve and Victoria Gore were there with their 2 daughters. Steve B, Colin and Angela Gough, Steve and Loraine Naylor, Mark Waddington (more about Mark later!!), Patrick Maddison, and Jon's neighbour, Neil. A little later, Jon's Friend, Dave and his wife Irene appeared, due to their enjoyment of last years do.

Onto the evening!! The weather held out, just, whilst the food was being cooked. Together with the salad and bits and bobs put on by Liz, it went down very well. The guys tended to break into little groups when the customary magic appeared, whilst the ladies settled down to a good natter.

Jon had organised a raffle with star prizes and booby prizes, with the majority of the prizes seemingly going to the Mitchell family, with a sprinkling going elsewhere!

Unfortunatly, around 8.30pm, the rains came so the remaining 10 or so settled down under a very nicely lit gazebo... nice one Jon! This became a bit of a cozy chat time...... until some silly so-so (any ideas, Mr Editor ?!!!!) asked Colin to tell a joke! floodgates open, springs to mind!! We all weighed in with a few, with quite a few old ones making another appearance!! I'm sure the biggest laugh came when Gemma told everyone how an elephant asks for an ice cream !! Together, with a bit of rope magic from Steve B, (we all stood up when Steve returned from the garage with the rope, and pretended it was time to go! ), the rain was forgot and it became a very relaxed, enjoyable evening.

At about 10.15pm, it was time to call time, so after helping clear the bits and bobs from the table, we said our thanks and goodbyes and left the Harris family with the enjoyable sight of all the chairs and tables to be sorted on Monday morning!

I must mention that poor Mark came in for a lot of stick about his decision to go full time and try to make a living out of magic! Brave move, Mark, but I am sure, on a serious note, everyone wishes you all the best. We had decided during the evening to present him with his first official catchphrase..........and was promptly reminded of it everytime Bros was played, with one of their most famous songs, accompanied with a few of us singing along..............WHEN WILL I, WILL I BE FAMOUS !!!!!!

All in all, it was a very relaxed evening, but once again it was the same faces supporting a BMC event. Maybe people only want the magic side, and no interest in a social side.Time will tell. It is true that they have been held in Wakefield and Bradley, but I do wonder if it would be any different if we held the next one at St James church, Thornton....our own base!! Ah well.

Cheers to Mr President for holding this years BMC B-B-Q.
