There was a great turnout of nearly 100 people to help the circle raise money for the local Parkinson's fund. We had 9 members taking part in the show, 6 of whom took part in the close-up and the remaining 3 did stage acts. For the close-up, Dennis and Karen introduced the acts. Stevie started his spot by explaining why we were doing this show, and started his magic with a bit of a warm up involving different coloured words. He went on to perform a well received coins across. He then asked a girl called Alex to help him with a trick using metal chain and making loops with it. I've never seen this trick before and I enjoyed the presentation of this effect. He rewarded his assistant by making her a balloon horse. He then presented a fast moving ring on rope effect. He left the room to a thunderous applause. I (Mark) performed my act by starting with a rope with four ends done to the story of the rubbish that you can buy at the Gadget shop. I then went on to do the card in mousetrap but picked out probably the only person there who had Parkinson's. I must learn to read my audience better' I then moved onto some tricks using rope. I made knots disappear and tried my hand at eyeing the needle. I then performed a variation of the invisible pack. Henry performed his competition act, which included the colour changing deck. Henry also picked Alex to help him and she was being very difficult with him, almost crawling over the table to point out a red card. Poor Henry!!! Darren's insight to magic produced the four aces in a variety of different ways. He then had someone sign their initials on a piece of paper and then changed it into the two of hearts and then produced two sponge hearts. He then performed the coins across. His act was very well received. Jason then started his spot with the colour changing pack and then produced the four aces and moved them around the pack. He then produced a chosen card from his mouth. Oliver then did a slick linking rings routine, which was well received. He then did a trick using four playing cards and four sponge balls, making the balls appear in different places. He then finished of with a seamless ambitious card routine. We then had a short break and moved on to the stage acts. Darren introduced the following acts. Lauren performed her Chinese music act filled with colour. She performed the colour changing rings and then moved on to a well received (are you getting as bored with that phrase as I am??) dream bag. She then made a box penetrate through a yellow handkerchief and quickly moved onto the crystal tube effect and then produced a guinea pig from a die. She left to a tremendous round of applause. Dennis was next and started his gag-filled act. He vanished a bottle of tomato sauce in a McDonalds bag. He then performed a prediction gag and produced a flower. He then started juggling with one ball (WOW!!!!) then two and then three. He then juggled three balls blindfolded and then juggled nine balls (NOT). Ken then came on stage annoyed because Darren had used one of his jokes whilst introducing him. He performed the chop cup, cut and restored skipping rope and then the colour compulsion, not taking the risk of putting a £2O note in the polo packet as he has lost money occasionally whilst performing the act. He then produced the 8 foot straw from a McDonalds bag. To end the afternoon the raffle was drawn and my little brother Neil won the C.D. player. Thanks for reading Mark Waddington |
