The Billet Article - Editorial

Editorial

Hopefully by the time you are reading this I will have had a flood of late bookings for the dinner from our own members. However, as it stands at the time of writing this, I can only say that our own members are going to be swamped by non-members. Any ideas why this is? Last year we had a really large turn-out. This year we seem to have gone back to the normal numbers. And what it makes it even more disappointing is that the people who are coming are the usual ones. Where are the newer members? Why don’t they support the Bradford Magic Circle on this occasion. I cannot believe that it is because the cost is too high. £25 is not a great amount to pay for a three course meal (four if you count the coffee and mints) with a choice of menu for each course; coupled with a cabaret of three top quality, different, magical acts. The Circle only really has two events a year – the dinner and the Hey Presto Show. I can’t believe that it is too much to ask that members support them both.

Now that I am heading towards my final Billet, I have been looking back at some of the ones I have produced over the years and been amazed at some of the articles I managed to get from some of the top magicians who have lectured for us over the years. Some of the old back copies are well worth looking through. I will probably bring them all along to the AGM in February when they will be available for everyone to look at before Jon Harris takes them over. When I say everyone, I should say the few who will bother to turn up to the meeting.

That reminds me – have you volunteered to help with the 60th Anniversary display at the Industrial Museum next year, or are you leaving it to someone else? Chris Hart has been working really hard to get this up and running. Support him and the rest of the helpers. The more who volunteer to help the less work there will be for everyone.

Finally here’s a little funny – actually I don’t need to repeat it as Melvyn has put it in his page. Yes it was me who was getting rid of a printer. And despite all the clues I left for Melvyn he failed to spot them. Not only that but Chris knew what I was up to and kept quite about it, so thanks Chris! I now expect a retribution from Melvyn!
