After my Editorial in the July/August Billet stating that I would be retiring as Editor after the February AGM I have to admit that I was expecting to have no response and I would have to try to find someone to take on this role by approaching people individually. However, I am happy to say that I have not needed to do this. Last month I was approached by Jon Harris who has stated that he would like to take on this role. Having a young family and heavy work commitments, Jon cannot make all the meetings and had to retire from the committee as he was finding that he could not get to those meetings very often also. But he is keen to ensure that the magazine continues, and, as I explained, I have quite a stock of material that he could use over the first twelve months whilst he settles into the role. Not only that, he can produce the magazine at home whilst he is baby-sitting! Nonetheless, what any editor needs are contributions by members of his own society. Which, in the case of the Bradford Magic Circle, means you. Yes, I have plenty of material from magicians outside the Bradford Magic Circle, but, whilst these are excellent, a local magazine also needs articles by its own members. So I am asking, on Jon’s behalf, that you help him by sending him pieces of local interest that he can us. These do not have to be just about the Bradford Magic Circle, they can be magical items that you have seen locally or even nationally or internationally on your holidays. What about a magic book you have read? Or a new trick you have purchased – is it good or is it rubbish? Even a magic related article you have read in a paper – cut it out and send it to Jon, he may be able to use it in a future Billet. Finally I would just like to add the congratulations of the Bradford Magic Circle to Angela Gough who has just become a grandmother. Colin tells me that she has abandoned him and left him to type out his own Presidential for the Billet this month! And don’t forget the Dinner on the 9th November. |
