I was disappointed that I was unable to perform in the roadshow at Clayton Village Hall. This was due to the fact that I was double booked. It was the same night as the Leeds MA President’s Dinner at the Masonic Lodge in Bradford and I had paid for this some weeks before. On a general note the meal was excellent, as was the entertainment. The evening was compered by Mike Coyne, one of the original Comedians on the Yorkshire TV show of the 70’s, and now a member of the Leeds MA. Al Conway was the guest entertainer and he kept everyone amused with his gags and comedy magic. I was unable to attend the committee meeting as Angela and I were on holiday in Malta. Whilst it was raining in England, the temperature there for the first three days was in the 90’s and soared to over 100 for the next four days. We visited several hotels and pubs to see if there was any magical entertainment on during our stay, but to no avail. The entertainment comprised singers, DJ’s, quizzes and Sky Sports. On the magical front I went to the auction at Manchester MC where you can always find a bargain or two. On this occasion, however, I refrained from making any purchases. I, like many magicians, have a cupboard full of magic that will never be used, and I do not want anymore. The older props brought the highest bids egg an old, small, wine barrel which is shown empty and then produces wine, was sold for over £200. At Leeds MA the guest lecturer was childrens entertainer, Mal Sanderson. He gave a performance to a group of young children and, when they left, explained the structure of his show, and there followed a question & answer session. Following this he went on to show and explain several tricks which he uses for adults. A good evening which was enjoyed by all. On Sunday 1st July, Angela and I went to the Travis Perkins day of magic at Ferrybridge. We had a very enjoyable day; and that’s all I will say on this subject as Stevie B will be writing a detailed report. |
