I last reviewed Maurice, many years ago when he stopped the show with his kids act. It was on a library theatre Hey Presto Show. I knew that his lecture at the BMC would be a huge success but when I saw his cluttered tables I began to have second thoughts. I needn`t have worried. The lecture was packed with practical tips from a long standing working magician. This was not a presentation for the magicians magician but an Aladdins cave for the commercial performer. I’m not going to itemise the content because the great number of attendees will be aware of this and I feel that if you could not be bothered to attend, then that’s your loss. The essential business that puts the childrens entertainer in demand was in abundance. The gags were prolific and the effects were appropriate for the various age levels. Maurices' emergency kit was the badge of the professional. He had well made attractive props for sale with detailed lecture notes. His tip about the balloons and pump from Tesco will save many a hard up magician a fortune. This was the kind of evening that should be encouraged and our thanks must go to the committee and of course to Maurice for making it memoriable. |
