Last month Ray Roberts submitted a report from part of an evening of magic that we presented recently. Somehow or another Keith managed to lose it, so Ray’s report appears separately this month. After the interval, Ray performed a delightful mutilated parasol frame to cane explaining the working of it along with how it has been fitted and received into his children’s shows. A nice little effect and a bonus item on top of the actual reason Ray was taking part. Ray in fact was giving a brief history about the illusionist Horace Goldin. I won’t go into the actual details of the talk, which lasted about 40 minutes as I’d hope it will also be presented at one of our meetings with another topic for the other half of the meeting. What I will tell you is that Ray spoke passionately about Horace Goldin from his childhood, to his interest in magic being kindled, to his arriving as one of the most celebrated names in magic. Ray’s depth of feeling and respect as he took us through Goldin’s brief biography held the attention of the audience steadfast. It came to a close and Ray received a tremendous round of applause. He clearly had put a considerable amount of work into his presentation and this was clearly appreciated by the audience. What a great way to round off another visit to Leeds Magic Association. Thanks are expressed to those who took part and in particular to Colin Gough who took charge of arranging the team the appeared this time. Well thanks for reading and I’ll see you next time. |
