Greg Wilson appeared at the Bradford Magic Circle on Friday 13th April after losing his entire luggage on the plane. However, that did not put him off amazing and entertaining the 41 members and 7 guests who turned up for the evening. Opening with a coin routine where his hands were shown empty only to immediately show a coin there, he had everyone baffled. Using Peter Wright, who made an excellent assistant throughout. Greg showed how ---Edited by Webmaster for Public--- . Greg’s first piece of advice was that you should be appearing to entertain with impromptu magic, but actually be fully prepared beforehand, before the audience know that you are going to do anything. He demonstrated how he touched people (in this case Peter!) in a non-threatening way so that when he got on to the actual pickpocketing they were conditioned to the touch. He also concentrated on doing the moves on the off beat i.e. when the audience was relaxing for some other reason. The bounce/no-bounce ball was a quickie. Greg had the no-bounce ball loaded under his armpit and he switched them before giving it to his assistant to bounce. Greg showed how he changed a one dollar bill into different currencies and then finally to a 100 dollar bill. He explained how to make the gimmick and suggested using it with a British £20 note. Throwing a £1 coin into the air it came down as a giant coin. And then vanishes. For this he uses a pocket like a topit. He showed over and over again how he can throw a coin into his trouser pocket, just by having his hand casually hold the trouser pocket slightly open. Greg borrowed a cigarette (as he said this is becoming harder to do as so few people smoke or admit to smoking!). He tore it in half and restored it. ---Edited by Webmaster for Public--- A copper and silver key were shown. They were placed one into each hand and changed places. This was an item he sold called Freakey, ---Edited by Webmaster for Public--- . Pip Streak involved Victoria choosing a card – 4C. Greg moved the spots on the card up and down- by means of gimmicked cards. Then Greg borrowed a deck of cards, shuffled them, had Victoria shuffle them, and then had Victoria hold the deck out. Greg reached across and extracted the 4 aces without touching the deck (we saw this in operation the following evening on the show). He had done this by culling the 4 aces as he shuffled the cards and then palming them, before bringing them out one at a time. Finally Greg showed his skill with cards as he appeared to turn over 2 cards over and over again, but showed that he had actually turned over 26 cards. He had 2 cards named and found them by spinning a card into the air and catching it between 2 cards, which turned out to be the chosen ones. Afterwards, he picked Ivan’s pockets and took out his glasses and car keys whilst we talked to him about the following night’s show! Luckily he gave Ivan them back! Greg finished to resounding applause and sold quite a lot of the items he had brought along. Many thanks to Steve & Victoria Gore for putting him up for a couple of nights. |
