Was it really the Pudsey road show again?? It did not seem that long ago since the last one! Steve B had enough performers {having done his hunting down trick!}, so Gemma and myself went along to watch and support the show. Once there, I was asked to do a write up as no one else from the circle had turned up to add support. So I hope my first attempt passes! As usual, there was a good turnout from the public and the whole show went down very well. Stevie B was our compere and as usual did a sterling job holding things together. First on was Joe King {Brian Waite} with silk magic. Although an old piece, there were still surprising gasps went the silk disappeared! I liked his finish with a pet crow puppet that turned out to be a snake charmer! Next came Mark Waddington. I think Energetic and crazy summed this guy up!! Mark, what are you on?? This was a fantastic performance from Mark that both surprised Gemma and I and left me thinking this young man could go on and become an excellent performer. He had the children spellbound and in his control. I particularly liked the way he covered anything that went astray with a quick quip! Lost it a bit when doing balloons but came out smelling of roses – mainly the fact he made a rose out of two balloons!! Steve then introduced Mr Mageek alias Colin Gough. Colin did a Kidology and a very nice paper to dollars routine. Again, Colin made it look easy with his relaxed way. To finish before the break, we were mesmerised with Harlequin – aka Godfrey Shackleton. For those who do not know of Godfrey, he performs a Punch and Judy routine. Godfrey, all I can say is fantastic!! I personally was fascinated by this show and by the looks of all those around me, so too were the rest of the room. If you ever need an assistant, call me!! After a tea, coffee and whatever break, it was back to the show. 1st on was Eric Stringwell. Eric performed quite an enjoyable variety of magic, from silks tied together, and then not and then tied again, to an interesting one involving Tinkerbell the fairy which Eric duly squashed when holding her in his hands then clapping! I’ve not seen much of Eric as a performer but it came across that he was very experienced. Last but not least we were entertained by Steve Gore. I say entertained, as whilst showing us his juggling skills, he entertained us by dropping one of his knives close to where the children were sitting! I say, close? Phewww!! Seriously, as a juggler of sorts myself, I appreciated his obvious skill at this art. Nice one, Steve. I will apologise to the performers for not covering all their wares, but I would like to say that we were very disappointed that apart from yourselves, and Peter Wright doing a good job on sound, there were no other members of Bradford Magic Circle supporting a show that brings in much needed revenue. I would suggest that people need to make a concerted effort to get along to these shows and see the variety on offer. Too many read the write ups and miss out on the live performance itself. Think about it. |
