The Stevie B Page

Hello Wizards,

If you’ve been away I hope you had a nice time. I know Paul had been across to the good ol’ US of A and hopefully while you’re reading this, I’ll be reading of his adventures over the pond elsewhere in the Billet.

We didn’t quite go over the proverbial pond but I suppose we did get our tootsies wet visiting the Isle of Man. To be honest, we haven’t gone yet but will be back home by the time you read this. During the summer I managed to finish the book I’ve been working on ……… I might start reading another one tomorrow! We did have a day out at Bridlington. It was nice just walking along the promenade in my flop-flips (I had them on the wrong feet) but enough of this nonsense, I hear you yawning, what’s going on at the Circle?

Hnad Cuffs from the Amythest LectureWell for one thing, we have a lecture on escapology and some of the challenges taken on by Houdini as well as some of the methods he used. Included will be replicas of some of the shackles and cuffs used in that golden era. The lecture will be presented by Danny Hunt and Annette Claire who go under the name of Amethyst.

They are of course our illusionists at the Dinner in November (HAVE YOU RESERVED YOUR SEATS YET?) and so should be an enjoyable prelude to the Dinner. I saw them present some of their escapes and their lecture as part of the feast of magic covered at the Northern Magic Circle’s Junior Day, held early in July.Hnad Cuffs from the Amythest Lecture

Danny has taken over the marketing rights of David De-val’s range of escapology equipment and is always looking for the next challenge. He is an accomplished escape artist who is always looking for the next challenge and also enjoys re-enacting some of Houdini’s escapes. One recently was from the York City Museum Jails and was covered by Calendar; some of you may have seen it. So hopefully there will be many there to support Danny and Annette, oh and Ray, watch the thumb cuffs! Actually Ray will be one of the performers appearing in the Roadshow we are presenting at Altofts on 16th September. Ernest has also let me know that he will be along with his assistants from Brighouse. There is still a reporter needed and maybe some performers although by the time you read this, I should have confirmations if those already approached are available. Remember these shows can bring in enough for an extra lecturer, some equipment like the PA system or new requested books etc. for the library.

It’s your circle and as such, don’t you have a responsibility to look after it?

Thanks for reading see you next time.
