On the opposite page (Webmaster: not shown Online) you can see the advert for the President’s Dinner & Cabaret at our new venue, the Bankfield Hotel in Bingley – or as it is now called, The Ramada Jarvis. Although I imagine it will be quite a while before most local people stop calling it the Bankfield. Now I imagine that some of you will glance over the page thinking that I don’t go to dinners and such events, they are not for me. But can I ask you to just stop for a minute and think carefully. As a member of the Bradford Magic Circle I imagine that you are interested in magic and like being a member of a magic club. There will be some evenings that you enjoy and some that you don’t like quite so much. However, overall you like being a member of the Bradford Magic Circle and meeting and making friends who also enjoy magic. The Bradford Magic Circle really only has two major events a year – the Hey Presto Show at the Bingley Arts Centre where we attract some of the big names in magic in this country to appear and where everyone has the opportunity to put together an act and appear on stage with them in front of a large audience – and the dinner. Most members have been to the show. If you have never been to the dinner, or perhaps been once several years ago, I would like to ask you to think carefully why you are not supporting one of only two major events put on by the Bradford Magic Circle annually. Is it the cost? Don’t you like formal dinners? Don’t you like the artists booked? Whatever it is, I would ask you to consider really seriously coming to this year’s dinner. You are a member of the Bradford Magic Circle. The committee is trying it’s hardest to get a variety of events for everyone to support. Yes, you will think that some are better than others. However, one thing I can say is that those who do go to the dinner enjoy it, and, in the main, come back again and again. It is not a formal evening. Look at the dress code to see that. Although if you do want to come in formal dress, that is fine. It is a sit down meal, but there is plenty of opportunity to mix and chat with friends. There is magic to see – and every magician must enjoy watching live magic. And there is the President to support on his, and his wife’s, special evening. I would ask all of you who don’t normally come to this evening to give some serious thought to coming along this year. If you don’t like it, tell the committee what you don’t like afterwards and we will see what we can do for future years. But remember, many committee members are working hard behind the scenes to put on evenings like this for you. The work is unpaid. Please support them. |
