Not the largest ever crowd for this night on the 4th August, but the 12 members who turned up seemed to have a good night playing around with tricks which members had brought along to try and have explained to them. It was so good that Charles forgot to go home at 9pm and stayed to the end! The bits that I saw included Doug Haigh bringing along a rope routine which he was having trouble with. Charles showed Doug his version of the routine, which I think baffled Doug even more! I remembered part of the effect after reading the lengthy instructions Doug had with the routine. Peter Wright had a routine which I think involved mentalism. Stevie B seemed engrossed with this one. Cards were definitely involved with Steve Gore, our President and new member, Simon Hayton. Steve Gore was demonstrating how to riffle shuffle properly. I demonstrated how not to riffle shuffle; managing to drop more cards than I merged. I did, however, show off my one skill with cards – a one-handed cut to bring the chosen card to the top of the deck. I used to practice this for hours in my younger days when I spent the evenings in my bedroom studying for my accountancy exams. It was so boring that I used to practice card moves at the same time. This was about the only one I persevered with long enough to get it right! The evening seemed to pass quickly, and everyone there appeared to enjoy this casual evening. |
