Hello Wizards, It was a real shame that the proposed Roadshow we were to do at Clayton never come off. A few had put a lot of work into preparing their acts. I even went out and bought six new cards, repeatedly! Well hopefully, by the time you are reading this, the team or one similar will be preparing to embark on another Roadshow. Ken Mitchell has got this ball rolling at a church hall just by where he lives in Altofts, Normanton. It is only a twenty-minute drive from the M606/M62 junction, I am told. I know I can get to Ken’s house in 45 minutes from mine. Hopefully, I’ll have had a chance to see the hall. Again I am told it has a stage with stage lighting, front cloth on a traveller and a side exit to a room at the rear for us to change and set up. What will be needed are a couple of stagehands, lighting and sound team and a reporter. If you could help in any of the ways mentioned, or others, please let me know. As for the where, what day and time, it is at St. Mary Magdalene’s Church, Church Road, Altofts on the afternoon of Saturday 16th September. At the moment it due to start at 2.00-2.30pm. To find the place from Bradford, take the M62 west to junction 30, leaving towards Wakefield on the A642. Stay on the A642 for about two miles before turning left onto Ferry Lane which becomes Birkwood Road and then becomes Church Lane.
It is hoped between our two groups to set up another exchange evening, this time with the Harrogate Society of Magicians who meet on the third Monday of each month. We are looking at the 20th of November as the date of the event, which is just after the Dinner. Please let me know if you can help in any capacity. Speaking of the Dinner, there aren’t many names down for the Dinner as yet. Maybe you are all hesitant, as you haven’t been told the Cabaret that will be appearing. At a recent meeting the Cabaret was determined. Tony Rix will be presenting another quality spot as well as introducing Joe Harper, who won the Easter Parade Junior Stage Competition along with the Tommy Aldus Cup for Comedy. Topping the Bill will be Amethyst with illusion and song. So now you get, get your names to Henry.
Going back to the Shows, maybe you’d prefer something a bit more local. Well fear not for there is of course the competition evening in October with a chance to perform in the Close-up and the Stage Competitions. If you are interested Please let Henry know. If none of the things mentioned above appeal to you to support, perhaps you should join a snail watchers guild (I’m sure there must be one somewhere) and go live life in the slow lane! As for the rest, I hope to see you all at, at least one of the events coming up.
Just before I go, we are hoping to have Castle Magic’s Mike Shepherd across for the September Meeting with a Dealer Dem. I should know for certain in time for the July Meeting. It is already on the Website Calendar in the hope of attracting a few visitors from other Societies. Another thing you may have noticed on the Website, and mentioned here for those without Internet access is the change in the November meeting. One of the Church members requires the room the night we would have been using the room so our meeting has been brought forward to October 27th. It will be an evening split into two halves, one a talk on Children’s Magic Presented by Keith Pickles, the other a hands on Juggling Workshop presented by Steve Gore.
This is of course the July/August edition of the Billet, so until September, have a nice holiday if you are going anywhere and thanks for reading.
