If you really enjoyed the Hey Presto Show, you could do worse than attend the Easter Parade Convention up in Durham which, coincidentally is taking place over the Easter Weekend. A good job really. You won't have heard of a Pancake Day Parade although that does sound tempting. Anyway the convention is running from Saturday 15th April through till Monday 17th at the Three Tuns Hotel. You are a phone call away from getting route directions from me. If you would like to attend but can only be there for one day, I would recommend the Saturday. Paul Daniels will be presenting a questions and answer session as well as appearing on the Gala Show the same evening. Other acts appearing on the show will be Amethyst, Roy Davenport (always worth watching) and Nicholas Mohammed who will be compering the show. Rather than waste time here, if you would like some more information on the convention, please call or e-mail me. Nicholas Mohammed has told me that there is programme going out some time in April on prime time BBC1 in which one of his character's features. According to a quick Internet search I made entering Nick Mohammed and Lenny Henry, the character appears to be a weatherman. Check out any sites linked to Nick Mohammed, he's receiving some very high acclaim. Despite living miles away, Nicholas keeps his membership to the Circle active and when we speak he always sends his warm regards to my family and the Circle, bless him! Another name I keep hearing crop up is Dynamo who many of us know as Steve Frayne. He's certainly getting about still and was apparently featured on Channel 4's Richard and Judy teatime programme. Finally, you should have spotted in the Billet Diary that on Saturday May 13th we'll be presenting an evening show of magic at Clayton Village Hall. Keith is liasing with the people at the Hall and I am undertaking putting the show together. I would like for us to be able to present a strong variety of magic in the hope of leaving them wanting more and making this show another one to run annually as with the one at Pudsey. There are already four performers in the show and I am happy to put a couple more on the bill. I also require the help of a sound and lighting team and a stage crew. It looks poor when the performers are seen doing all the hefting as well. If you can help in either of these capacities please let me know as soon as possible. It would also be nice to have a reporter there to write up the article for the Billet. Your new Publicity Officer is chomping at the bit and hoping that promoting the show can be his first job in his new office. When asked if he would like to take on the position he was very keen to give it a go. Please give him the support needed to keep the Circle's profile high. While talking about giving support here and there, please remember to use your new Welfare Officer, Angela Gough. The welfare office can all too often be a thankless job. I know this from experience, as I'm sure do Victoria Gore, Betty Driffield and Christine Shalks. Remember a Welfare Officer would rather hear that somebody is ill from a dozen sources than not at all. |
