Another AGM is behind us, and I thought it was quite a good one, with some interesting feedback from the floor particularly in regard to the library and the Dinner. Plans are set well in motion for this year's Dinner on Friday 17th November at the Ramada Jarvis Hotel, more commonly known as the Bankfield, just off the Bingley bypass.
Some of our lecturers are given accommodation there and speak highly of it. The hotel, the newer extensions of it being built on to an old characteristic building, has disabled access for those that may require it. The bar will be extended to 12:30 for those who require that, and there is a fine variety of flavours to choose from in the menu for those who can't eat just anything.
The choice of menu has already been agreed with the hotel with none of the ridiculous red tape Melvyn and I had to endure last year. The hotel offers generous car parking space and reduced rates for those wishing to stop the night. We have been quoted reduced room rates (honest), at £63 B&B for a double or twin room and £38 B&B for a single room. Of course for the reduced rates you may need to mention that you are attending the Dinner. Our President, Henry noticed that you can book rooms at a better rate online, something to consider. I imagine that these would be for long-term bookings rather than those made nearer November.
So why is the Dinner being mentioned so early on in the year? Well one of the concerns of the committee is to make the evening as enjoyable and affordable to all its members as possible. It is quite an amount of money to find in one chunk for those who are not as financially affluent as others and so the opportunity exists to pay for the Dinner in instalments. Of course there will always be those who for whatever reason just don't attend the Dinner. Your loss, I say! I'm sure many others would agree. Friday the 17th November, I'll be there, will you?
