You may notice that in this month's Billet there are several, in fact quite a lot, of magical items that have appeared in various papers, both locally and nationally. Whilst some of them egg the piece on the magical policeman, may be incidental to the main story, they do at least give publicity to the world of magic in a nice way. By the way, does anyone know who Peter Smales is, the magician who was appearing at Wycliffe School in Shipley? It is not a name I have come across, but I would imagine that some of members will know of him. Is he a member of the Northern Magic Circle or any of the other local societies? I am assuming that he is local appearing in a Shipley School, but I could be wrong. Anyway, publicity is always welcome; particularly that of the right sort. And we should be grateful for the big piece that Steve Gore got for our Hey Presto Show in the T&A on Friday 20 January. For those of you who do not get the Telegraph & Argus, they have a big inside piece on local productions, theatre, music, etc, each Friday. Steve got this piece in the main part of the centre spread, so did very well indeed. Hopefully the paper will be running a competition to win four tickets for the show nearer the date, so that should give us some more publicity. At this stage (29 January), I have only sold tickets to the following members of the Bradford Magic Circle – Ross Risdon; Joe Manning; Stevie B; Eric Stringwell; Charles Boyd; Doug Haigh; Brain Waite; Ken Mitchell; Peter Wright; Henry Norris; Jon Harris; Colin Gough & myself. Not very many considering the number of members we have. I am sure that the rest of you will be contacting me this evening (meaning the night of the AGM) to ask for your tickets. Please do so; it will be an excellent show at a very reasonable price. Remember that this show is the envy of many other magic circles nationally. There are very few who have the members able to put on such a high calibre show year after year. Please support it. It is the main fund-raising activity of the year. Without it we would not be able to have the top quality lecturers we attract each year. |
