Hello Wizards, Wednesday 17th March and Henry and Sarah Norris and I spent a superb evening at Harrogate Theatre to watch Geoffrey Durham's Little Miracles. Henry said he would do the report on the show so I'll not tread on his toes. I mention it purely because I'll be looking forward to seeing Geoffrey Durham in Ilkley at the Easter Parade. However, there's a lot more to see besides. Here's an appetiser of what to expect. On Saturday 10th there will be a dealer dem, The Geoffrey Durham Experience, Easter Magic and Fun show for Children featuring Jon Marshall, Moira Fletcher, John Russell, Paul Sunderland and the famous Northern Magic Circle Juniors. Alternatively there is at the same time three workshops covering card magic for the heavy worker (table faro's second, centre and bottom deals etc.) by Jack Skertchly, magic with ropes and string by Terry Crawford and coin magic including coins through table by Nicholas Mohammed. Later there will be a balloon share shop, a well-received feature at our convention in 1998. The day ends with a Gala Show in which Clive Moore will introduce Geoffrey Durham doing the whole second half, Mark Raffles, Stuart Brown, Moira Fletcher and Fred Corvenieo. After the Service of Worship, Sunday is the competition day but also has a lecture from Ken de Courcy and a workshop from Brian Sefton on stage manipulation. While the AGM is taking place as a non-magic event Radio Leeds' Joe Maiden will be holding a questions and answers session with advice on gardening. Bradford is represented in all three competitions with Anthony Heaton and Jason spear taking part in the Close-up, Steve Gore and Co. competing in the Senior Stage and a whole wealth of junior members who will no doubt be competing in the Junior Stage competition. Monday has a wonderful 'From the Archives' line up in which Brian Lead will talk about 'PHANTOMS of DELIGHT' (Charles Dickens, Lewis Carroll and Pepper's Ghost) and Trevor Dawson will talk about 'RITHERDON and CHUNG LING S00" (William Ellsworth Robinson's Lancastrian Links). Finally to take everyone to the Farewell Luncheon and Awards Ceremony and the installation of the new President, there will be a be a close up show starring Jack Skertchly, Clive Moore, Brian Sefton, last year's close-up champion Chris Stevenson and Darren McDonald who is currently the Juniors close-up champion. I'm sure you'll all agree it looks like a fun packed weekend of magic and right on our doorstep! I hope to see you there. |
