For me, the highlight of Channel four programme Dirty Tricks is without a doubt the "Jonathan Escapes" section. Jonathan Goodwin is the star and with his Dad's help tries to escape from the wackiest situations usually involving pain! The escapes are filmed apparently using home camcorders and take place in different rooms of his house. His Dad (and yes it actually is his dad) has no knowledge of what is about to happen and is instructed by Jonathan to tie him up using various equipment. Past episodes include him tied to his bed topless under a sheet with a red-hot iron placed in the centre and his has the time for the iron to burn through the sheet to escape. Unfortunately this week he failed, and the iron fell on to his bare chest! Oouucchh! In the programme "The 7 Stupidest Things to Escape From" on E4, Jonathan again assisted by his trusty Dad is this time out and about and has rated the 7 escapes according to Pain, Danger and Stupidity each out of 10 giving each one a possible score out of 30. The 7 escapes were: 7 - The Pier Attached with bandages to a mobility scooter and rigged to accelerate he had to escape before it ran off the end of the pier. Partial success - Score 14/30 6 - The Dog and string His hands were superglued together behind him around a tree and his sister's dog was wearing a harness with varying lengths of string attached to it. The other ends of the strings were attached to bulldog clips to his pubic hair and crocodile clips attached to his nipples, eyebrows and armpit hair. A gold ball was then teed off for the dog to chase. Failed - Score 17/30 5 - The Car Wash Attached to the bonnet of a car with haulage ratchet straps wearing only swim trunks he had to escape before the end of the cycle with as little damage caused by the whirling plastic bristles. Succeeded - Score 18/30 4 - The Lift Strapped to an upright trolley with hose clips placed in a lift on the 13th floor he had to escape before reaching the bottom where all his family, in-laws and friends were waiting at the bottom. I failed to mention that he was totally naked and wearing a gimp head mask. Failed - Score 20/30 3 - The Bee Cage Gaffa taped inside a cage filled with hundreds of bees he had to move very slowly to avoid being stung to death. Succeeded - Score 24/30 2 - The Zip Wire not attempted properly as he broke his leg in tests. Failed - Score 25/30 1 - Human Wrecking Ball Attached to a swing with seat belts and swung into various piles of nastiness like household refuse, broken tellies, barbed wire, a porta-loo and finally a brick wall. He had to escape before hitting the brick wal1. Succeeded - Score 27/30 I enjoyed these programmes, which were admittedly very silly and dangerous because of the style of home filming and escaping from everyday equipment. |
