As mentioned in my last Secretarial, there will be an exchange evening taking place at which a team of magicians will visit the headquarters of the Leeds Magical Association. I would very much like to present to them some close-up magic and then a short stage show. It will be on Tuesday 8th November at the Quaker Meeting House just across from Leeds University. A map can be provided. Would you like to be on the team? I need names along with your preferred performance arena... close-up or stand up... and a rough idea of the effects you'd like to perform. We may even have an opportunity to use the sound system and to that end will probably require some non performance assistance. Please don't leave it to the usual few. It isn't fair on them or on me having to rely on the usual people. Maybe you've put your time in and so leave it to everyone else. Ray Roberts certainly had and still came back to take part in the Roadshow we did in Saltaire last year and thoroughly enjoyed himself, as did the audience. Maybe you're fairly new to the Circle and feel more experienced members would be better suited to performing. Don't let that stop you! I am happy to put on the bill anyone wishing to represent the Circle that evening as it shows a cross section of our membership and can only be a positive exercise in promoting magic and particularly, magic from our Circle. Almost straight afterwards, on 19th November, the day after the Dinner, Dance and Cabaret (have you booked your seats yet?) it is hoped a team of magicians can go across to the Marriott Hotel, Boar Lane, Leeds. A Charity Ball is taking place and they would like a few table hoppers and if possible a short stage show with if possible some illusions. If this meets with the apathy too many events receive, I am prepared to approach the Junior Section organisers of Northern Magic Circle to see if they wish the present the magic and reap the rewards. I can also approach Leeds Magical Association to see if they may be interested and possibly Harrogate Society of Magicians. What I won't do is ring around and assemble a team. That ball is no longer in my court. Regrettably, the planned visit to the Mystique Show over in Blackpool will not be going ahead this year. There seemed a tremendous lack of interest and so those whose names I received for this year's will be asked if they'd like to join a larger group including members from Leeds Magical Association and possibly Harrogate Society of Magicians. Apologies to those who were hoping to go this year, for the inconvenience. Has Henry received your entry into a Competition on Competition Night (September Meeting) where we will hopefully be enjoying three magical competitions subject to support in the competitions. That's another ball back in your court! For anyone who may not know, congratulations were extended to your Publicity Officer and Welfare Officer, Steve and Victoria Gore on the birth of Deanna Charlotte. They've already bought her a BMC logo embellished Baby Grow or Romper Suit. She'll be performing card tricks and juggling teddy bears before we know it! Celebratory gifts were sent to Steve and Victoria and not I hasten to add by the Welfare Officer! This is a good opportunity to ask that you use our Welfare Officer and keep Victoria up to speed of any welfare news, good or bad (unfortunately there always seems to be more bad tidings that good) so that she may respond accordingly. As some will already know, a bit of good cheer, and knowing you're being thought about during times of illness means a lot. I can vouch that as soon as she knows of any news, Victoria responds with an appropriate gesture on our behalf. I mentioned the BMC Baby Grow for Deanna Charlotte. This was one of several items displayed at the June meeting. Paul Sunderland has set up a contract between the Circle and an embroidery company that are able to stitch our Logo onto a whole range of clothing. They can also print the logo onto such as souvenir spoons and key fobs. They could stitch the Logo onto a favourite shirt or jumper you may have but warn the fabric may not be idyllic. The prices are more than reasonable and the quality of the stitching very high. Paul took considerable number of orders at the June meeting and has the whole range of items along with their prices. Give him a ring. Well it's time to go again, hope you stayed the whole haul. There was a lot to discuss, as there won't be an August edition. Hope you manage to get away and enjoy your Holiday's. Will you be seeing any magic during your excursions? If you do how about sharing it with the rest of us? Anyway, for now, thanks for reading. |
