No, this has nothing to do with the sun or moon, but rather was the name of a magical act which Pam & I saw at the Arona Gran Hotel during our holiday in Los Cristianos at the beginning of June (so that's why I wasn't at the June meeting). The hotel had different entertainment each night. Besides the magic, we also watched a group which was advertised as a tribute act to the Temptations & Four Tops. They sang one number of each of these groups and the rest of the act contained songs from other groups and solo artists; but they were good. The stage had a large (and I do mean large) pillar on the ballroom right in the middle of it, which didn't help anyone performing their. Eclipse were a Spanish couple (don't ask me their names; however the man spoke good English). They worked on the dance floor in front of the giant pillar, probably a good idea. He started with vanishing cane and then produced a number of doves from hankies, an appearing cane and a balloon. Pulling on a large cage he uncovered it and placed a flaming torch therein. Covering the cage he immediately yanked the cloth away to reveal his girl assistant. Torn & restored paper led to him re-tearing the paper and placing the pieces in his mouth; from which he proceeded to pull a long paper coil. After performing the Needle Through Balloon, his assistant was placed into a Hindu Basket, through which he placed flaming swords. Getting a boy from the audience, he dressed him in a Harry Potter cape and glasses to perform a change bag routine. Returning to the illusions, he placed his assistant into an upright box and put blades through to split the boxes into four pieces. These were placed on the floor and then replaced in the wrong order. The girls head, body and arms were shown in the wrong place, before she was recreated correctly. A short rope routine led into the girl having a sword placed through her neck and silk to rose. The girl then was chained and placed into a sack. He lifted the sack and instantly dropped it to show his assistant was free of the chains and in a different set of clothes. Finally the doves were covered and the box thrown into the air to show they had vanished. Whilst only a small audience watched the show, they all seemed to enjoy what was a professional performance of mainly standard magical effects. |
