There was another good turnout of 41 members to welcome Morley Budden on his farewell dealer dem tour of the country before he retires to Spain at the end of the year. With his young sidekick, Liam, he entertained the audience with a selection of his own material and a few items which he showed members how they could make up themselves. He showed a Monkey Bar type item which used balloons instead of the normal silks. This was followed by a giant version of a pocket effect which he sells, entitled Psycho Dice. 3 differently coloured dice were shown. A spectator was asked to place the 3 behind his back and return 2 to the table. When the box was opened 1 dice was found inside matching the colour of the one left in the spectator's hand.
A spectator selected an ESP card from a bag. He looked at it and placed it face down on his hand. Morley gave him a cloth to cover the card with so that he could not see it. Morley took out a duplicate pack and selected one of them; the cards were found to match. This worked because in the pack that the spectator had, each card had a different back design. All Morley had to do was remember which different back contained each card and he was away. He even had a crib sheet in his duplicate pack to help! The backs were created from 5 different backs and laminated; i.e. 2 cards in each laminate. He uses laminated pouches which are sold for containing 6" x 4" photos; getting 2 cards from each sheet.
5 ESP cards were placed in envelopes by a spectator. The spectator chose an envelope, looked at the card and replaced it, but face down whilst the other cards were face up. Morley placed the envelopes on the table and then identified the chosen card. This was called ESP Telepathy Card and words because of the way that the grain falls in cards. Because the cards had been cut cross grain, when a card is turned over it folds differently and can be felt. If you don't understand, ask someone who was there to explain!
Morley borrowed a £10 note and placed it in an envelope. This was mixed with 3 other envelopes. A spectator mixed the envelopes and then numbered them. 3 spectators chose envelopes and Morley burned them – using a giant match (lighter) to light the envelopes. The spectators £10 was found in the last envelope. He sold this as Up In Smoke.
After the break Liam demonstrated some of the effects which they were selling including several card tricks. He showed how to use the Pen Thro' Note item to good effect; before Morley finished with a Pea Can item with the water (in this case diet Pepsi) ending in Gemma's hand, to all round laughter.
As Morley is retiring due to ill health he is presently offering many items at greatly reduced prices and is offering bargain packs of mixed items at give away prices. He handed out his sale lists, which can be obtained by contacting him.
An excellent evening ended with them doing a roaring trade of the many items they brought along.
