Well your committee (with newly co-opted member Peter Wright) has been working hard to bring real value for money to our Dinner, Dance and Cabaret in November. To continue to keep the costs down, there will be a set starter. This however has freed up the main course and the desert to offer choices. The service will be plated service with all the food coming to your tables piping hot, where applicable. After all, who wants piping hot ice cream? The venue is the Cedar Court Hotel at the top of the M606. It is a four-star hotel with leisure facilities available to anyone staying the night. We will be in the Rowan Suite, a huge room much larger than required when fully opened out. However, there will be partitions to separate the main body of the room from the remainder and we shall be using this partition as a front cloth while our cabaret sets up there apparatus. The partition will then be opened to form two wings to set the right look for the cabaret. At the moment the cabaret consists of Brian Sefton with his delightful doves and manipulations and Visage, celebrated illusionists seen recently at Easter Parade and earlier at Blackpool and Eastbourne. Of course there will be the presentations to be made and a chance to win a raffle prize or two. The Dance makes its welcome return and without the extra expenditure of hiring a DJ, the reason we chose to lose the dance for another act. Of course so much can't be done in such a short time. That's why the dinner this year will be at 7.00pm for 7.30pm. with the bar being kept open till later. Of course the down stairs bar will be available long after for those staying at the hotel for the evening. I know Melvyn has a good many friends outside of magic who are hoping to come along to what will surely be a wonderful evening. Our official guests will be Sam and Joy Mallinson in their capacity as President and Lady of Northern Magic Circle. Will you be there? We've struggled to keep the costs as close to last year's prices while again trying to improve year upon year. I feel numbers will filling in fairly early so don't miss out if you fancy a tremendous evening.
Onto other things now. At the April meeting there were 17 members who had yet to pay their subscriptions. A ring around from yours truly (always to be a nuisance) hopefully got them into gear and thus saved them paying the £15 re-joining fee.
