Hello Wizards, Well I told you all about the Easter Parade Convention in the last Billet, the convention will be behind us by the time you read this. I wonder how well we did for trophies this year. I thought I'd tell you a little bit about the Leeds Convention and President's Dinner in May. The Dinner is on the 14th and should be a lot of fun. Chatting with their secretary (fellow secretary's huddle together occasionally discussing how they put the world to rights you see!) Jon Gordon (lovely chap, can't quite get the official secretarial handshake right though) he let me know will be in the Cabaret. Peter Greenwood will be introducing male vocalist Newton Willams along with Pat Page and Wayne Dobson. Jon also told me (incidentally, did you know the collective noun for a group of magical secretary's is an arrogance?) a bit about the Sunday, the day of the convention itself. As well as Wayne and Pat, who will each be giving a lecture, with Wayne's including a questions and answers slot, there will be a couple of workshops. Jack Henderson will be giving a talk on home made magic and sharing some brilliant ideas. The other talk is by Tim Shoesmith and will be about children's magic. The close-up show features some of the names already mentioned as well as the Leeds Magical Association's President, Graham Roe, AKA Jack Diamond, along with Darren McDonald and yours truly. You are forgiven if you wish to go see Darren or one of the others twice! To round off the day, there will be a short closing show, featuring Tim Shoesmith along with Pat Page and Wayne Dobson, the latter two presenting different acts to those performed the previous night I'm told. Finally, a room full of dealers will be there to help you spend your money and so all in all, it promises to be a cracking weekend. Jon assured me during our phone conversation that registration forms will be available before the April meeting and I asked him to pass them onto Colin Gough to bring them along to the meeting. Unfortunately, I'll not be at the meeting as I have a prior engagement. A bit later I'll let you know about the Ferrybridge fun day often referred to as the Travis Perkins Assembly. That's for another time though. For now, thanks for reading and take care. |
